It’s all about composition! Learn to take great pictures on a walk
Duration 2 – 2 ½ hours
Group Size Up to 15
What We’ll Do
Want to develop a better eye for taking a great picture, but don't want to spend time sitting in a classroom? A great photograph requires great composition and photographing nature is really hard. Landscapes that appear lovely when we are there looking at them in the moment often do not translate into good pictures. The natural world is complex and messy and many pictures don't work because there is no center of focus, poor lighting, or everything is too far away. Articles about taking pictures provide rules for good composition and then recommend breaking them at times. What does that even mean?
This walk is for beginning and intermediate level photographers who may feel frustrated about how their pictures look--but don't know why.  You will learn by doing and have fun! Cell phone, small camera, SLR - anything is suitable because no matter what you use to take pictures; composition matters. You  will find out why as we explore concepts crucial to recognizing a good picture. Afterwards, you will be able evaluate natural landscapes and recognize opportunities to take interesting photographs you will enjoy sharing.
Date: August 21, 9:30 am.
Location: Mountain Division Trail
What to bring: Suitable clothes and shoes for walking outside on uneven ground in fields, forests, and along the water’s edge and a cell phone or camera or both!
Registered Maine Guide Jeanne Christie spent two years as a newspaper photographer back in the days of film and darkrooms and later taught photography skills for several years with Windham Adult Ed.  Nowadays she might use her cell phone more often than a camera; but she always finds interesting pictures everywhere, all the time.  She is also a Registered Maine Guide and Certified Interpretive Guide.
