                                                                                       FAQs

Why are there two different starting/ending times for camp?

Regular Camp Day runs from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Campers will arrive just in time for all of the programs, special events, and any outings (which depart at 9:00) and will need to be picked up between 4:00 – 4:15 p.m. This option is offered at a reduced rate.

Extended Day allows campers to arrive as early as 7:00 a.m. and remain at Kids Club as late as 5:30 p.m., with supervised, unstructured activities during the extended hours.

Can I choose which weeks or days of the week my child will attend camp?

Weekly Camp Rate is for campers who will attend Monday through Friday, and you may register for any or all of the 7 weeks. There will be a discount for those who register for more than 4 weeks per child.

Part-Time Camp Options allow children to attend either 3 days per week (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) or 2 days per week (Tuesday-Thursday). Both part-time options include one field trip. Please note: we cannot make any adjustments to the days available for the part-time attendance options.

Do you offer any financial aid to help cover the cost of camp attendance?

Once Day Camp registration is open, scholarships are available through the Town of Windham Social Services. You will need to complete an application (available online or at the Parks and Recreation office) and schedule an interview with Rene Daniel by calling 892-1906. All financial aid applications are due by Friday, May 13th.

Do I have to pay the entire registration fee at one time? Are there payment plans available?

With registration opening on Monday, March 28th, and camp fees being due in full by Friday, June 3rd, we are offering a 10-week payment plan.  We only require a deposit of $100 per child at the time of registration (non-refundable after the registration deadline of May 27th) and payments of any amount toward your final balance are accepted throughout the 10-week period.

How can I pay my camp fees?

Camp payments can be made online, via postal mail, or in person at the Parks and Recreation office during regular business hours (M-F 8 am-4 pm). If you have questions regarding your balance, please call us at 892-1905.

Is there an additional fee for families who are not Windham residents?

There is an additional fee of $45 per child for any non-residents enrolling in our Summer Day Camp.

What field trips do you offer? Are they included with my child’s camp registration?

Field trips are offered every Tuesday and Friday for all of our campers; these fees are paid for with your camp registration. Field trips vary based on camper ages but typically include visits to area amusement parks, beaches, museums, outdoor excursions, and more. The complete field trip schedule for 2022 will be available on Monday, April 25th.

What are enrichment programs?

Programs that are offered in addition to the regular camp day will be available throughout the summer, including one-time excursions or weekly activities. Past enrichment programs have included swimming lessons, horsemanship, and movement workshops; a complete schedule of summer enrichment programs will be available on Monday, April 25th. All enrichment program fees are in addition to the registration fees for camp.

Will my child receive a camp t-shirt?

One t-shirt is included with the cost of camp registration; additional t-shirts may be ordered for $12 per shirt. Camp t-shirts are required for ALL field trips. Any extra t-shirts must be ordered by Friday, May 27th; no additional shirts will be available after the program has begun.

Do you have a list of rules and policies for your summer camp program?

All of the Summer Camp Policies and Rules are described in detail in the Parent & Camper Handbook, which will be available on our website on Monday, March 28th.  We strongly encourage you to read the information in the Handbook in order to help your child have a successful summer.

How are you addressing camper and staff safety in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic?

Our Summer Day Camp program will continue to adhere to all State of Maine and municipal guidelines intended to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We have worked with the Town of Windham Health Officer to develop a protocol for suspected or confirmed COVID-19 illness at Day Camp, as well as to put into place policies that will help to mitigate the spread of illness. More detailed information, including camper readiness skills and parent information, will be available with our Parent & Camper Handbook on Monday, March 28th.

Do you offer summer programs for children who have “aged out” of the traditional camp program?

The Senior Camper Program is designed for teens who will be 14 as of October 15th and entering Grade 9 in the Fall of 2022 to develop leadership skills and gain hands-on experience as a leader. Senior Campers will pay discounted rates and will need to meet minimum program requirements (including at least 80 hours of participation with at least two in-camp days during Week One). Senior Campers and parents will sign a Senior Camper Contract recognizing the requirements of this program.

What is your CIT or Counselor in Training program?

The CIT (Counselor in Training) Program is a volunteer program designed for teens who will be 15 as of June 15th. An application and two letters of recommendation are required for these positions; applications will be available during the registration process in the Parks and Recreation office or on our website. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 13th. Applicants will also be required to attend an interview prior to beginning the program. Anyone who is selected for a CIT position will be expected to provide 21 days (7 hrs/day) or 150 hours of service to the program for the summer.  Regular progress in this position will be expected, and evaluations will be provided regularly throughout the summer. Involvement as a CIT does not guarantee future employment; however, successful participants are given first consideration for open positions.
