FAQ's
Why are there two different starting/ending times for camp?
Regular Camp Day runs from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Campers will arrive just in time for all of the programs, special events, and any outings (which depart at 9:00 a.m.) and will need to be picked up between 4:00 – 4:15 p.m. This option is offered at a reduced rate.
Extended Day allows campers to arrive as early as 7:00 a.m. and remain at camp as late as 5:30 p.m., with supervised, unstructured activities during the extended hours.
Can I choose which weeks or days of the week my child will attend camp?
Full Time Camp Option is for campers who will attend all 7 weeks of camp.
Weekly Camp Option is for campers who will attend Monday through Friday, and you may register for any or all of the 7 weeks. There will be a discount for those who register for all 7 weeks.
Part-Time Camp Options allow children to attend either 3 days per week (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) or 2 days per week (Tuesday-Thursday). Please note: we cannot make any adjustments to the days available for the part-time attendance options.
Do you offer a waitlist if my desired schedule is unavailable?
We will not be holding a wait list for 2023. If staffing allows, additional registration openings will be released on Wednesday, April 26th and Wednesday, May 17th at 8:00 AM. Please note that as our capacity is determined by our staffing, there may be no openings available to be released on these dates.
Do you offer any financial aid to help cover the cost of camp attendance?
Financial assistance is primarily offered through Windham Social Services and the State of Maine Child Care Subsidy Program. We also accept payments from other sponsoring entities (CPS, Woodfords, etc.). For more information about financial assistance and application instructions, please click here.
Do I have to pay the entire registration fee at one time? Are there payment plans available?
We require a deposit of $100 per child at time of registration (this deposit is non-refundable after the registration deadline of May 26th). We do not offer any payment plans, however, there is a 10-week period when registration opens (Monday, March 27th) until final payment is due (Friday, June 2nd). We encourage families to utilize this 10-week period and make partial payments of any amount up until payments are due in full by June 2nd.
How can I pay my camp fees?
Camp payments can be made online, via postal mail, or in person at the Parks and Recreation office during regular business hours (M-F 8 am-4 pm). If you have questions regarding your balance, please call us at 892-1905. Please note a 3% convenience fee will be tagged to any online payments, but there is no convenience fee if paying in the office with a card.
Is there an additional fee for families who are not Windham residents?
There is an additional fee of $45 per child for any non-residents enrolling in our Summer Day Camp.
What field trips do you offer? Are they included with my child’s camp registration?
Field trips vary based on camper ages, but typically include visits to area amusement parks, beaches, museums, outdoor excursions, and more. Based on the transportation services available to us, each camp will have one field trip per week and entertainment or a special event another day of the week. Additional outings to local destinations on non-trip days using the Parks and Recreation Department vehicles may also be an option throughout the summer. The complete field trip and special event schedule for 2023 will be available on Monday, April 24th and all the trips and special event fees are paid for with your camp registration.
What are enrichment programs? Are they included with my child's camp registration?
Programs that are offered in addition to the regular camp day will be available throughout the summer, including one-time excursions or weekly activities. Past enrichment programs have included swimming lessons, horsemanship, and movement workshops; a complete schedule of summer enrichment programs will be available on Monday, April 24th. All enrichment program fees are not included with your camp registration and will need to be paid in full at the time of registration.
Will my child receive a camp t-shirt?
Camp t-shirts are required on field trip days and one t-shirt is included with the cost of camp registration. An additional t-shirt may be ordered for a fee of $12. Camp t-shirts are required for ALL field trips. An extra t-shirt can be ordered anytime up until the registration deadline, Friday, May 26th.
Do you have a list of rules and policies for your summer camp program?
All of the Summer Camp Policies and Rules are described in detail in the Parent & Camper Handbook, which will be available on our website on Monday, March 27th. We strongly encourage you to read the information in the Handbook in order to help your child have a successful summer.
Do you offer summer programs for children who have “aged out” of the traditional camp program?
The Senior Camper Program is designed for teens who will be 14 as of October 15th and entering Grade 9 in the Fall of 2023 to develop leadership skills and gain hands-on experience as a leader. Senior Campers will pay discounted rates and will need to meet minimum program requirements (including at least 80 hours of participation with at least two in-camp days during Week One). Senior Campers and parents will sign a Senior Camper Contract recognizing the requirements of this program.
2023 Senior Camper Fees:
Regular Day Extended Day
Full Time (7 weeks) $640 total $895 total
Weekly $100 per week $135 per week
M-W-F $60 per week $85 per week
Please note: There is no T-Th option for Senior Campers.
What is your CIT or Counselor in Training program?
The CIT (Counselor in Training) Program is a volunteer program designed for teens who will be 15 as of June 15th. An application and two letters of recommendation are required for these positions; applications will be available during the registration process in the Parks and Recreation office or on our website. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 12th. Applicants will also be required to attend an interview prior to beginning the program. Anyone who is selected for a CIT position will be expected to provide 21 days (7 hrs/day) or 150 hours of service to the program for the summer. Regular progress in this position will be expected, and evaluations will be provided regularly throughout the summer. Involvement as a CIT does not guarantee future employment; however, successful participants are given first consideration for open positions.
